Brief tour of the Britannic organ (in german)

Di-So | 13.40 & 15.40 (20 minutes)

A description of the history of the Seewen Britannic organ combined with live performances of piano and organ music.

In 2007, while the museum's mighty Welte Philharmonie organ was in the process of being restored, evidence came to light testifying to the instrument's fascinating previous life - one previously unknown, or at least no longer known. The evidence indicated that the organ had been destined for the sister ship of the Titanic, the SS Britannic. The latter was requisitioned by the British Royal Navy as a floating hospital during the First World War and sank in the Aegean Sea in 1916 after hitting a mine. Of equal interest is the treasure trove of perforated paper music rolls dating from the early years of the 20th century.
