Since it was founded in 1966, Basel's Jewish Museum has assembled a cultural-historical collection unique in Europe. In 2016 it celebrates its 50th anniversary with a display of noteworthy artifacts, such as textiles, ceremonial objects, everyday items, and a Torah arc from the former Jewish prayer room in Solothurn (1893).
For the first time, a chronological exhibition presents the history of Switzerland from a Jewish perspective. For the past two millennia, Jews have been courted and oppressed, integrated and persecuted. And today? What is taking place in contemporary Swiss-Jewish culture?
