Rudolf Steiner. Alchemy of the Everyday
17.09.2011 - 03.2012
Rudolf Steiner was one of the most original and provocative thinkers of the 20th century. Not only did he found the anthroposophy movement but he also amassed an extensive body of creative work. His achievements encompass diverse buildings, including the famous Goetheanum in Dornach, as well as many furniture designs, small objects, sculptures and blackboard drawings. Steiner's concept of 'thinking in forms and colours' assured his place among 20th-century designers whose ideal was a Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) founded on an interplay of disciplines in which art and life became fused together. This first comprehensive retrospective presents a varied perspective on Steiner's multifaceted oeuvre, including the origins and sources of his creative ideas as well as references to the work of his contemporaries. The exhibition also evaluates the present-day impact and the timeliness of Steiner's artistic and intellectual legacy.
