Arman. The exhibition has been conceived by the Centre Pompidou, Paris in co-operation with the Tinguely Museum
16.02. - 15.05.2011
The retrospective devoted to Arman, one of the major figures of European post-War art will bring together almost 120 works from leading museums and private collections to offer a new and distinctive take on Arman's work.
As founder member of the Nouveaux Réalistes, a group that championed "new perceptual approaches to the real,” Arman developed a body of work intimately related to its own age, taking as its artistic material the manufactured products of the consumer society.
The presentation is organised around seven themes that reflect Arman's major artistic problematics: Allures d'objets, Poubelles, Accumulations, Coupes, Colères, Combustions. Having questioned these principles constantly he created a vivid, artistic expression which testifies the originality and the evident contemporary relevance of his work.
Through an exceptional selection of filmed records, the exhibition will highlight two fundamental features of Arman's work: the gesture, inherited from the practice of the martial arts, and the object as essential vector of new artistic forms.
Vernissage: 15.02.2011 18.30 h
