About the institution

The Museum der Kulturen is the largest ethnological museum in Switzerland and holds one the most significant collections in Europe on life in European and non-European cultures. The museum presents its exhibits in a way that invites viewers to self-reflection in an encounter with the Other and otherness. Thus it offers new views and insights, inspiration, and food for thought.

Cultural Dialogue
Thursday 13.30 - 17.00
Saturday and Sunday 10.00 -17.00

With "cultural dialogue / dialogue culture" the Museum offers an interesting exchange format. Specially trained cultural mediators enter into a dialogue with the visitors. Discussions on ethnological and socially relevant issues will open to visitors new perspectives on the museum as well as on the content of the exhibition.

Basel Carnival. Colours, masks, sounds
Vocatively displayed in authentic historic rooms, this exhibition presents a cross-section of Basel Fasnacht Carnival. (Visits only on request)
