The Basel museum cafés offer more than just culinary experiences. One of the cafés used to be frequented by renowned artists including Picasso and Giacometti, others form part of the museum’s exhibition. Each of the museum cafés is unique.

Cultural highlights accompanied by culinary highlights. Bistro AMB offers visitors a range of lunchtime dishes changing each week, evening meals à la carte and three-course meals at weekends. You can stop by to enjoy coffee and cake, or book the vaulted basement for a banquet.

Restaurant im Park serves locally produced food and wine. The vegetables come from land just 500 metres away, spices from the restaurant’s own garden and the wine from vineyards within sight of the premises. Dishes ranging from gourmet delicacies to hearty meals are on offer, together with a selection of newspapers and magazines providing food for thought. Tables are available indoors and outdoors in the park.

Restaurant Kunsthalle

The premises alone of Restaurant Kunsthalle are worth a visit. The «Schluuch» (artists’ canteen) has been hosting renowned artists after their exhibitions since 1872 and features impressive ceiling paintings. The conch-patterned ceiling in the “Pantonssal” in particular is a treat for the eyes, and the traditional and modern Basel-based dishes on offer are served with a loving twist.

Whether for coffee and a croissant before or a piece of cake after viewing the exhibition, the art museum’s bistro invites visitors to pause for a while. At lunchtime, the bistro is as busy as the museum at a vernissage, so an advance reservation is recommended. Lunchtime dishes on offer – one with meat and one without – change every week.

The restaurant «Chez Jeannot» is a place for brunch, for a bite before dipping into the Rhine, a lunchtime meal or an afternoon snack. The interior is dedicated to the artist Jean Tinguely, combined with a whiff of Parisian flair. Meeting for a meal on the terrace overlooking the Rhine is a summer highlight.
