Eurovision Song Contest – Special Programmes

The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is coming to Basel. Basel’s museums have also been preparing for the world’s largest music event. With a lot of creativity and humour, they have put together various support programmes and events, ranging from workshops and special exhibitions to the smallest disco in the world.

Historisches Museum Basel

Beside the Tinguely fountain, in front of Theater Basel, Historische Museum Basel has installed a Memory Box in connection with the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). From 10 bis 25 May, all kinds of objects relating to the ESC, such as tickets, autographs, T-Shirts and fan articles, can be donated or loaned to the museum.  As a special highlight, some of these objects will later become part of the museum collection and will thus be preserved for coming generations. Those unable to come by physically can also send in their memories online.

  Tuesday to Sunday, 11.00 – 19.00

Naturhistorisches Museum Basel

For the ESC week, Naturhistorische Museum Basel is creating a world full of glitter and glamour. It includes a public viewing arena in the inner courtyard, the world’s smallest disco and a DJ programme featuring Flavah Nice and The Haze. The iconic unicorn, suitably coiffed, will return to Basel in time for the ESC and provide an ideal photo backdrop. On top of all this, the museum can be accessed free of charge from 13 to 17 May 2025.

Tuesday to Friday, 10.00 – 17.00

Fondation Beyeler

In allusion to the famous song “Over the Rainbow”, the Fondation Beyeler will be holding a special presentation of its exhibition from 9 to 18 May. Masterpieces by Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and others have been put together under the motto of diversity and colourfulness. The museum is also sending a clear signal with the spectacular rainbow light sculpture entitled “we are poems” by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinones placed on the roof of the building.

Kunstmuseum Basel

The inner courtyard of the Basel art museum is set to be converted into a large dance floor. In connection with the ESC and the simultaneously held dance festival “Tanzfest Region Basel 2025”, dance will be celebrated as the element uniting the two events. It’s about having fun and building bridges between the generations and people from all backgrounds. On 17 May, workshops will be held for free, with topics ranging from hip-hop and urban dance to dancing for the entire family.

Tuesday to Thursday, 10.00 – 18.00

Basler Papiermühle

Feel like writing a postcard once again? During the ESC, Basel’s Papiermühle museum enables you not only to do so, but also to embroider it yourself, adding to the recipient’s joy when they get the card. The open workshop is included in the museum’s admission fee and is aimed at children and adults. No registration is required. The offer is provided in cooperation with the Institut für Textiles Forschen IfTF (institute of textile research).

Anatomisches Museum der Universität Basel

The “Fanpoint” of the University of Basel’s Anatomical Museum, developed specifically for the time of the ESC, is all about the human voice – just like the music event itself. How is air used to produce sound? What does the cochlea in our ear look like? How does my larynx or voice box work? Answers to questions like these can be found at the Anatomical Museum from 2 to 31 May. Further special features on offer include a karaoke station and costumes designed to generate an ESC feeling. There is also a photo point to ensure that the experiences do not get forgotten.

Monday to Friday, 14.00 – 17.00

Sunday, 10.00 – 16.00
