Blick in die historische Abteilung
In addition to contemporary exhibits, the Museum possesses numerous, valuable, historical preparations which have been restored using the latest techniques. They are now presented in new displays. Of special historical interest, is the skeleton prepared in 1543 by Andreas Vesal in Basel, which is reputed to be the oldest anatomical preparation in the world. There is also a preparation made in 1573 by Felix Platter and wax models made in 1850 by Carl Gustav Jung. The body cross-sections (slices) made by Hanson Kelly Corning in 1900 form the anatomical basis of modern clinical body-imaging techniques.
