The new exhibition on Roman drinking and eating culture at the Augusta Raurica Museum
The year is 39 A.D. An important visitor arrives in Augusta Raurica. A luxurious banquet is prepared for them. The remains end up in a pit, where they remain hidden for almost 2000 years.
Where will the celebration take place? Who is invited? What will be drunk? What do we have in common with Roman table culture? What differences are there to today?
The exhibition "The perfect dinner. Romans, power and rubbish" lets you participate in this special event as a guest and takes you on a search for clues. Take a look behind the scenes of a Roman banquet and marvel with us at the wealth of information handed down to us by the rubbish of that time.
An exhibition in two parts. In the first part of the 2024 exhibition, we will serve the aperitif, while the banquet will be served in 2025.
