Garden tour Castelen Estate

May 22, 2025 | 14:00 - 15:15 Uhr
Seize the opportunity and take an exclusive look at the private gardens of the historic Castelen estate.
The Castelen country estate towers high above the ancient Roman town of Augusta Raurica. The villa and gardens were built in several stages between 1918 and 1932 and served as a summer residence for the Basel chemist Dr René Clavel-Simonius.
Landscape architect Thomas Stauffer will guide you through the magnificent gardens, which consist of two areas: a smaller architectural garden and a landscape garden. On the tour, you will learn how the garden heritage site has been undergoing landscape architecture and garden conservation work since 2010. At the same time, a picturesque view of the Rhine plain and the Roman town of Augusta Raurica awaits you.
The gardens are included in the ICOMOS list of historic gardens and sites in Switzerland.
