Inventarium - A documentation of the general inventory in the Basel Historical Museum

The "Inventarium" is a small exhibition about collecting and organising things and knowledge in the museum. Visitors can find out what a general inventory is and why the Historical Museum needs one.

What do the "Inventis" do in the depots? From knights' helmets to women's strike posters - the general inventory examines the 300,000 or so objects in the museum's collection and draws our attention to the historical changes in the handling of museum property. How and why have exhibition and storage practices changed? The "Inventarium" presents underestimated areas of museum work.

In the presentation, "finds" from the inventory can be discovered. The public learns what potential the Historical Museum sees in these objects.
