Jeziory. New York. Basel. Installation in the courtyard of the Jewish Museum of Switzerland
Jeziory. New York. Basel. Installation im Hof des Jüdischen Museum der Schweiz
The Jewish Museum of Switzerland will move into a new building at Vesalgasse 5 in 2025. The wooden building, a former tobacco warehouse, will be transformed into a museum by Diener & Diener Architekten. The façade will feature a work of art: Frank Stella's work "Jeziory" (1973). The relief has a Jewish history, which is explained in the installation in the courtyard at Kornhausgasse 8.
In 2022, architect Roger Diener was involved in the remodelling of the Jewish Museum of Switzerland at Vesalgasse 5. The architect often works with artists. For the museum, he proposed Stella's work as the frontispiece for the façade of the wooden building. The original collage is translated into an architectural scale. The change from architecture to art returns to architecture; a new house for Jewish culture is created behind the "Jeziory" artwork.
