In her multimedia and performative practice, Coumba Samba (*2000) deals with the effects of institutional structures on individual and collective identities and questions dominant cultural narratives. Her work reflects on themes such as consumer culture, social dynamics and the intersection of technology and identity, illuminating the dynamics between mainstream culture and subversive practices. In doing so, she opens up a view of the global web of power and the continuities of colonialism by showing how colonial structures characterise the social and political present. Since 1996, the public space has been activated with individual artistic presentations of contemporary art on the outside wall of the Kunsthalle Basel. In 2025, Kunsthalle Basel invites the London exhibition space Galerina to jointly curate and organise the Coumba Samba project.
