The opening of the exhibition ‘Geoffrey Bawa: Architecture for the Senses’ begins with a discussion at Zaha Hadid’s Fire Station. Experts will come together to discuss Geoffrey Bawa’s work, its enduring relevance and the inspiration it offers for contemporary architecture and design. The panellists will include Channa Daswatte, Chair of the Geoffrey Bawa Trust, and Shayari de Silva, co-curator of the exhibition, as well as Suhanya Raffel, Director of the M+ museum in Hong Kong, and Ikko Yokoyama, co-curator of the exhibition. The discussion will be moderated by Johan Deurell, co-curator of the exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum. Drawing on the exhibition and the accompanying publication, the panellists will explore the significance of sustainability and cultural sensitivity in Bawa’s work. They will also discuss his close collaboration with artists and craftspeople, as well as his influential role in post-colonial Sri Lanka.
The event will be followed by the exhibition’s opening reception.
