Cartoonmuseum Basel

Three perspectives: feminism and illustration

18 October 2022 | 7.00 PM

Gabriella Giandelli (b. 1963), the Italian artist currently exhibited at Cartoonmuseum Basel, joins Switzerland’s Lika Nüssli (b. 1973) and Milva Stutz (b. 1985) to talk about political drawing, about feminism at the interface between art and comics, and about their own artistic positions. All three work with multiple forms of drawing and together they cover a broad domain between tradition and experimentation. On the occasion of the art fair ART Basel, this talk at Literaturhaus Basel takes the opportunity to explore points of contact, commonalities and differences between narrative and free art (moderated by Anette Gehrig, director/curator of Cartoonmuseum Basel).

Institution

The Cartoonmuseum Basel is the only museum of its kind devoted exclusively to satirical art – from the caricature to the comic. The Late Gothic building on its historic site also includes an unexpected new building by Herzog & de Meuron. Varying, attractively designed exhibitions on political and social themes show the considerable scope of the humorous drawing and the great diversity of artistic techniques. Equal attention is paid to both classical works, some from the museum’s own stocks, and contemporary works.
