Guided Tour

Cartoonmuseum Basel

Meet the artist La jeune femme et la mer

06 November 2021 | 4.00 PM - 5.00 PM

In her latest album, The Young Woman and the Sea, Catherine Meurisse focuses on the landscapes and nature of Japan. The artist’s enthusiasm for this island state’s beauty leads her to the great philosophical questions, as well as to the world-famous painter and woodcutter Hokusai – in humorous, profound and inspiring ways.

Catherine Meurisse guides visitors through the exhibition with curator Anette Gehrig and subsequently signs copies of her work.

Institution

The Cartoonmuseum Basel is the only museum of its kind devoted exclusively to satirical art – from the caricature to the comic. The Late Gothic building on its historic site also includes an unexpected new building by Herzog & de Meuron. Varying, attractively designed exhibitions on political and social themes show the considerable scope of the humorous drawing and the great diversity of artistic techniques. Equal attention is paid to both classical works, some from the museum’s own stocks, and contemporary works.
