PUBLIC ART @FREILAGERPLATZ #1 ist eine Initiative der FHNWHochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel (HGK; Claudia Perren, Direktorin), dem Haus der Elektronischen Künste (HEK; Sabine Himmelsbach, Direktorin), dem Kunsthaus Baselland (KHBL; Ines Goldbach, Direktorin) und der Interessengemeinschaft Freilager-Platz (IG; Peter Driessen Vorstandsvorsitzender). Sie verfolgt das gemeinsame Ziel, den Freilager-Platz mit wechselnder, öffentlich zugänglicher Kunst zu beleben, um seine Aufenthaltsqualität nachhaltig zu steigern und die Nachbarschaft zu stärken. Geplant sind im jährlichen Wechsel herausragende künstlerische Arbeiten, die in die Kantone Basel-Stadt und Basel-Landschaft wie auch weit darüber hinaus ausstrahlen. Den Auftakt macht nun der international renommierte und sozial engagierte Künstler Jeppe Hein mit seinem Wasserspiel Appearing Rooms.
Mit diesem Projekt soll erstmals eine Brunnenskulptur auf dem Freilager-Platz Einzug halten und insbesondere die Anwohner*innen zum Verweilen einladen. #1 wird verantwortet von Ines Goldbach, Kunsthaus Baselland. Es ist das erste institutionsübergreifende Projekt dieser Art und kündigt zudem den baldigen Umzug des neuen Kunsthaus Baselland auf den Dreispitz an, dessen Fertigstellung auf Ende 2023 vorgesehen ist.

Institution

The Kunsthaus Baselland is among the leading exhibition spaces for regional, national and international contemporary art in the Basel region. A special focus is put on artist of different age groups, which are working in Basel as well as on international working artists, which are working explicit with the place and the architecture of the Kunsthaus. Partially first big individual exhibitions for invited artists will be realized.

Access

From SBB train station
About 15 min. from SBB: Tram no. 8, 10, 11 or on foot to Aeschenplatz (1 stop), from Aeschenplatz tram no. 14 in the direction St. Jakob/Muttenz/Pratteln to St. Jakob stop. Walk in the same direction as the tram you have just left until you cross a bridge. The Kunsthaus is on the left hand side.

From Badischer Bahnhof (German train station)
36 bus in the direction Schifflände via Neubad to St. Jakob stop, from there on foot to the Kunsthaus Baselland.

By car, A2
Exit Basel Süd/St. Jakob, turn left, past the stadium, direction Muttenz, at the first crossroads turn left and then directly left into the carpark.

By car, J18
Exit Muttenz/Industrie/St. Jakob, over the crossroads then first entry left into the Kunsthaus Baselland.
