Snow

Today: 10.00 AM - 5.00 PM

19 November 2021 - 09 January 2022

Snowflakes transform the world, making us perceive our surroundings with different eyes. The exhibition shows how snow evokes emotions, and how we adapt to the new conditions: How do we move through snow? How do we protect our bodies and houses? And what happens if the snow itself needs our protection and «white Christmases» become ever rarer?

Institution

The Museum der Kulturen Basel ranks among the leading ethnographic museums in Europe. The Museum’s world-renowned collection numbers more than 340,000 objects. In order to regularly display and reposition collection pieces, the Museum organizes, in addition to its two permanent exhibitions, a number of special exhibitions each year with a focus on current as well as more general topics that shed light on the variety and diversity of cultural manifestations across the world. Visitors thus get to see the world with different eyes.

Every first Wednesday of the month the museum organizes a forum to address a specific anthropological topic, discuss current social issues with visitors or simply tell stories from a new perspective, thereby revealing unexpected overlaps with our own daily life.
