Ausstellungsraum Klingental

Blanko

Today: 1.00 PM - 6.00 PM

13 August 2020 - 20 September 2020

The Ausstellungsraum Klingental celebrates its return to the Klingental Church with Blanko.

Artists: Leonardo Bürgi, Mariam Elnozahy, Barbara Erath & Jo Dunkel, UFO (Michael Anklin, Lukas Huber & Robert Torche), Rebecca Kunz & Mathis Pfäffli, Janiv Oron, Akash Sharma

The invited artists will «sneak into» the empty, still disused premises and challenge the possibilities and conditions of the new location with the most diverse formats. With a ritual, a musical performance, and a guided tour of herbs followed by a distillation of the medical plants collected along the way, Blanko will noticeably spread and lodge spatially, acoustically, olfactorily, poetically, theoretically, ephemerally and visually via (sound) installations and physical interventions. The empty rooms become a fantasy space for various physical and sensual sensations. The new exhibition rooms will be presented and inaugurated in a variety of ways, while at the same time previous uses and long-vanished locations within the historic building will be subtly reactivated. Blanko gradually leaves traces in the new exhibition space, gives visible form to the appropriation of the new premises and enables the public to approach the new spaces in a multi-sensory way. The exhibition project will close on 19 September with a celebration of the official relaunch – along with the planned opening of the Atelierhaus.

For Ausstellungsraum Klingental curated and organized by Alexandra Adler, Silke Baumann, Franziska Baumgartner, Gerome Gadient and Thomas Heimann

With the generous support of Canton Basel-Stadt Kultur, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, Pro Helvetia Cairo and the Sulger-Foundation

Institution

The Ausstellungsraum Klingental is an exhibition space, which provides a platform for artists living and working in Basel. We present, discuss and promote their artistic practice bringing it to public attention. We consider the exhibition space to be a meeting place between contemporary art and the public. The Ausstellungsraum also applies its experimental approach to its important role within the various citywide exhibition projects such as Museum Night and Regionale.

An important feature of the Ausstellungsraum is the promotion of young talent. The Ausstellungsraum Klingental discovers and presents innovative artistic work and provides opportunities for curators to develop ideas within a professional framework. However, we are also keen to promote and present important positions from older generations of artists.

The Ausstellungsraum Klingental was first established by an artist initiative in 1974 within the Kaserne area. Since then it has been run by a changing coalition of artists and art mediators such as art-historians and curators.
