Radiosands – Thom Kubli with ZHAW/Sven Hirsch

Today: Closed

03 May 2019 - 12 May 2019

In the context of the exhibition Entangled Realities - Living with Artificial Intelligence HeK presents the project Radiosands by the artist Thom Kubli with ZHAW/Sven Hirsch. The installation consists of FM radios controlled by an AI and was developed by Thom Kubli in cooperation with the team of Prof. Sven Hirsch at ZHAW.

Our mobility allows us to pass through spaces charged with media information. We inhabit psychological landscapes interwoven with emissions from smartphones and mobile gadgets, television and radio broadcasts. The rapid selection of information particles from various sources has transformed into a common consumer habitus. But how is our perception influenced by this process? Do the fragments of text, music and media form a genuinely new level of meaning?

Radiosands is a walk-in installation in which several radio programmes being broadcasted simultaneously are analysed and reassembled. The installation uses the speed and algorithmic power of digital technology to create a new experience: A real-time collage of sound fragments that can be experienced within an expansive sculpture. The spatio-temporal choreography of the acoustic particles becomes a new unity.
