The Kunstmuseum Basel invites visitors on a journey through art history from the 15th century to the present day at three locations. Masterpieces from the collection, high-caliber special exhibitions and programs offer the public multi-layered approaches to art. The Hauptbau and Neubau are located in the heart of the city - just a few minutes from the SBB train station, and a short streetcar ride from the Badischer Bahnhof train station. The Kunstmuseum Basel | Gegenwart, dedicated entirely to contemporary art, is idyllically situated on the banks of the Rhine in Grossbasel.

Das Kunstmuseum Basel geht zu Ehren von Joseph Beuys experimentelle Wege. Um dessen 100. Geburtstag zu feiern, bieten rund 30 Gäste ein abwechslungsreiches Programm. Als Bühne dient eine modulare Szenografie aus Matratzen, Leitern und anderen Materialien, die es den Besuchenden ermöglicht, Dinge im Museum zu tun, die dort normalerweise nicht möglich sind – zum Beispiel übernachten.
Es werden Performances, Klangexperimente, Zukunftsspekulationen und Spaziergänge durch die Stadt angeboten sowie fettiges Essen serviert. Mal beziehen sich die Aktionen direkt auf historische Ereignisse, mal sind sie eher lose mit Beuys und seinem offenen Werkbegriff, mit seinen gesellschaftlichen und politischen Anliegen oder seinem radikalpädagogischen Engagement verbunden.
Der Eintritt zum 24-Stunden-Happening ist kostenlos.
